Please bear in mind, should you wish to see star-filled skies, it’s best to avoid times around the full moon. This is because the bright light of the moon can wash out some of the stars.

Our name says it all. Stewton Stars Hideaway was created for people who love dark skies. With minimal light pollution and wide-open views of the night sky, guests can experience some of Lincolnshire’s best stargazing. On clear, moonless nights, the Milky Way can often be seen stretching across the sky.
A few things determine whether you’ll actually see the Milky Way:
- Clear skies are essential.
- Avoid nights around the full moon, since moonlight washes out the Milky Way.
- Let your eyes adapt to the darkness for 20–30 minutes.
- In the UK, the Milky Way is generally easiest to spot from late spring through early autumn, especially on moonless nights.

Shooting stars can be seen throughout the year, but the best displays occur during annual meteor showers. Some of the most spectacular meteor showers visible from the UK include the Perseids in August, the Geminids in December and the Quadrantids in January.
